Now that the Butter and Eggs are back in the pantry, it's time to spice things up a notch by bringing on the red-hot Petaluma Chili and Salsa Festival.
Taking place next Saturday afternoon (May 9th) 1-5 at Herzog Hall on the Petaluma Fairgrounds, this super fun festival raises thousands of dollars each year for the youth programs of Cinnabar Theater.
Checking in with fearless, Chief Chili Festival instigator, Laura Sunday, the heat is on for record numbers of competing teams to concoct the tastiest, most intriguing chili and salsa dishes:
"We have a record number of challengers this year, which promises a raucous good time," says Laura, the chili lady. "Thirty eight chili and salsa teams are set to create some sixty different tasting opportunities."
Vegetarians will be well represented with six teams. "We have three of the hottest firefighter teams in the Bay Area....Hayward, Santa Rosa and Petaluma," says Laura "They'll be competing for the much sought after Fireman's Ax award for best team. And our three Rotary Clubs will challenge each other for the top spot. We have two bands sharing the stage...Stony Point and Society's Child."
Fidelma's Irish Dancers and Hip Hop Dancers from Fierce Dance Company and The Amazing Caine magician will add to the festive entertainment line-up. "Just a fun day in Petaluma to support Cinnabar Theater's Youth Program," says Laura.

Comment: OK - ignore my comment. How in the heck did I miss the band names? Sorry about that - no more speed reading for me!

Comment: Hi Frances - and local bands Society's Child and Stony Point will be providing live music. Both groups are donating their time for this great fundraising event.

About this blog
Frances Rivetti: Off The Cuff
Frances Rivetti scribbles daily on-line and for a variety of magazines, periodicals and newspapers throughout Northern California wine country and beyond. Trained as a general news reporter in rural Cambridgeshire, England, back in the late 80s, she duly discovered a very personal preference for uncovering the peculiarities of daily life over the deliverance of scandal and scoop. With some twenty plus years of international freelance 'lifestyle' journalism and public relations shaping the way she looks at community life, this long-time British American is deeply rooted along the edge of rural West Petaluma, juggling the daily adventures of her three school aged sons, antics of a hobby winemaker husband, wine country cooking and catering to a unruly menagerie of assorted family pets. 'Off the Cuff' is Rivetti blogging in her own backyard!
